The Geomorphology of a Bog:
A Geometric Model
Harvard Graduate School of Design
2022
The model explores glaciers as a geometric force in creating the bogs of North America and the soil structure within these bogs.
The inside sphere represents a glacier that receded with sand trapped inside. The weight of the glacier compacts the earth underneath and forms the circular shape characteristic of bogs while depositing sand as it melts.
When put together, the model represents the layers of soil characteristic of a flooded bog seen in section; the sand, peat, and water interacting as well as the idea of a false bottom.
